Jamtås born Karl-Erik Jonsson in 1960 in Skavbränna, Jämtland province in Sweden, changed his name to Karl-Erik Jonas Jamtås in 2002. The name Jamtås refers to his home province, Jämtland, with its particular undulating forest landscape; its language and cultural history.
"The landscape is a shimmering mirage far away in memory, deep in. This memory landscape reaches out, nearly visible. It´s right there under the thickly painted surface. Everything that once was is now dissolved. The painted surface is an intractable barrier: therein lies a world that has already passed. And now has changed.
Here in our world composed of whispering fans, ticking clocks, bustling forth all that must (preferably fast), or believe they must. Beyond the surface: languorous, motionless, a summer´s eve, the sixties, children´s shouting rends the inner heavens. As if no time has passed.
As if no time ever passes.
Peter Lucas Erixon on Jamtås in the art anthology Konzta (2004).
